Academic programme

This academic programme has a group of required courses common to all 5 subcategories (or "specialisations") leading to a state-accredited BTS degree, in addition to a general course of study, complemented by specific courses related to each specialisation, which represent on average one third of the total time devoted to course work.

Degree awarded

Upon successful completion of all course requirements, the student is awarded with "bac + 2" degree.

Employment positions:

    Specialisation: «Video engineer»

      This specialisation is appropriate for those students intending on working as a cinematographer, assistant director of photography, and special effects assistant. Two professional sub-specialisations are offered: «Photographic Journalist» and «Stage/set Lighting».

    Specialisation: «Sound engineer»

      This specialisation is appropriate for those students intending on working as an Assistant Sound engineer, with the possibility of evolving, via continuing his or her education to the position of Sound engineer. Two professional sub-specialisations are offered: «the Recording of Stereophonique Sound» and «the Production of Compact Discs»

    Specialisation: «Editing and post-production work»

      This specialisation is appropriate for those students intending on working as an Assistant Film Editor, ?de truquiste?? or ?d’infographiste?? which can lead towards the positions of Chief Film Editor, Film Director or to Creator of Special Effects. Two professional sub-specialisations are offered: « ?habillage d’antenne....Studio Outfitting? » and « News Editor».

    Specialisation: «Production management»

      This specialisation is appropriate for those students intending on working as an Assistant Production Manager (in a pre-production, production, and/or post-production capacity). Future positions one could aspire to are: Production administrator, de ?régisseur général?, Chief of Production Worksite, Director of Production. Two professional sub-specialisations are offered: « Fact-based Production Management» and «Production of Animation».

    The courses are of a highly specialised nature in accordance with their professional employment objective. This general education program is complemented by courses specific to each specialisation, which represent a third of the time.
Professional education
  • - Specialisation: «Video engineer»
      Contents of the course of study: Analysis of the range of equipment available (according to artistic demands, budgetary constraints, le ?cahier des charges? and planning limitations). Preparation for shooting: availability and reservation of equipment, adapting to the specific demands of various studios, lighting options, determining in advance the shooting locations and positions in accordance with the director, and respecting security regulations. Video shooting: technical adjustments of the video camera, choice of lens, inspection of lens covers and camera mobility. Characteristics of different types of video shoots: documentaries, dramas, current affairs, live, multi-camera video shooting... Maintenance of equipment and management of consumable material (eg. film).
  • - Specialisation: «Sound engineer»
    • - Analysis of initial production documents and evaluation of requirements
    • - Analysis of acoustic conditions
    • - Setting up equipment and the recording of sound (the choice and positioning of microphones)
    • - Mixing, treating of signal, use of consoles, mastering
    • - Editing of sequences, recording
    • - Listening and monitoring (knowledge and position of speakers)
    • - Sound proofing and live recording (radio, amplification, sound proofing of walls, network ?d’ordres?)
    • - Archiving of documents
    • - Security and prevention of risks
    • - Maintenance and oversight of equipment
  • - Specialisation: «Editing and post-production work»
    • - Analysis of the production: type of work, context of production, choice of director and producer.
    • - Evaluation of the plan of work: organising ?le dérushage?, choosing the most appropriate editing technology, determining the time required to edit and do post-production work
    • - Preparing to edit: choosing images, determining a plan of action, configuration of the equipment, carrying out numbering operations.
    • - Editing: editing in accordance with the director's demands, preparation of the special effects, sound mixing and/or preparation of the necessary elements for entering a studio.
    • - Synching: start with the raw materials to be edited, carry out the synching and the special effects, up until the production of a finished product, ready for market
    • - Management: predicting breakdowns in an editing studio, writing an editing report, and writing an editor's budgetary report.
  • - Specialisation: «Production management»
    • Instruction for this major is accomplished by way of case studies provided by the student, which cover the different types of programs (drama, animation, documentaries, investigative reporting, production ?de flux?) and by the student projects of students in different specialisations. Courses are taught by professionals and specialists: Production Directors employed by state broadcasting organisations, producers, insurers, and broadcasters.
    • The academic programme will cover the following points :
      • - An overview of the project: identify the nature of the project, identify the principal workers and their roles, and determine the principal stages of the project
      • - Analysis of a project and its preparation: evaluation of the ways of putting it into place, carry out research to determine a production cost estimate, drafting the various documents to be sent to others involved in the project.
      • - Preparation: drafting the production project for the broadcaster, drafting the plan for financing the project, required documents for trade unions and relevant governmental organisations, and financial preparations.
      • - Legal aspects/components/considerations: preparation of contracts
      • - Technical aspects... : hiring of required personnel, allocating all required resources, shoot planning, day-to-day scheduling
      • - Financial and budgetary aspects... : budgetary oversight, drafting of all required budgetary oversight documents
      • - Conclusion of production project: preparation of production to be sold to distributor, review of all relevant accounts
